Another exquisite perennial of the "High Desert," Penstemon spectabilis also called Showy Beardtongue or Mojave Penstemon, grows in the higher desert elevations to about 6000 feet. Once established, it can survive winter temperatures to 0 degrees and summer temperatures to 120 degrees. This plant will reward you with lavender to purple flowers on stalks from 1 to 3 feet high.

This and all penstemons are needed food sources for hummingbirds, Long-tailed Slipper and Chalcedon Checkerspot butterflies
