Salvia columbariae, Desert Chia or Chia Sage, is a Mojave Desert native sage species, and should not be confused with "chia-pet" chia, which is an entirely different species.
Chia is an annual plant found in sandy washes, and especially likes growing on dry hillsides. Native pollinators, including hummingbirds are drawn to it.
It will tolerate hot, dry conditions once established, and re-seeds itself easily. Desert chia is a valuable food source for many species of wildlife.
