Phacelia campanularia, Desert Bluebells (also called California Bluebells) are a spring desert annual native. It blooms heavily, and then dies off with first frost. It may reseed itself if conditions are favorable. As with most desert natives, Desert Bluebell prefers gritty, fast-draining soil. If watered infrequently, the gorgeous, deep blue blooms may last well into summer.
This is a short plant, (mature height of 12 to 24 inches) so best if used in borders where taller plants won't overtake it.
Favored by tortoises.
