Our Southwestern deserts have some of the most gorgeous species of Salvia found anywhere in the world. One of those unique species is Salvia carduacea, commonly known as Thistle Sage, perennial species native to California.
Thistle sage responds drastically to its environment, growing anywhere from from a few inches to 2 feet in height. A season of sufficient rainfall makes an amazing difference in growth. The flowers are a vibrant lavender. Like other members of the Salvia family, Thistle Sage has a wonderful sage odor, and is a magnet for pollinating insects. It requires alkaline soil that drains quickly. Responsibly collected on private property. Limited quantities.
