Curly Mesquite Grass
Hilaria belangeri is a species of perennial grass known by the common name Curly Mesquite, This grass is native to Mexico and the southwestern United States from Arizona to Texas. It is not related to Mesquite trees. It forms tufts of stems growing up to about 6 inches tall. It forms a sod, and spreads via stolons which then root to grow new tufts.
This is an important forage grass for wildlife.
